Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is an in-depth study and an amazing revelation of how we communicate with ourselves and other people. The field of NLP was developed by linguist John Grinder and mathematician and information scientist Richard Bandler at the University of California in the 1970’s. Essentially, NLP offers a process called modelling for “transferring genius from one person to another”. Today it is used widely in almost every sphere of human activity to learn how to observe and apply the strategies used by successful people to achieve their own goals.
In the 1980s, John Grinder overhauled, refined and re-coded NLP to improve its learnability and longer-term effectiveness. He termed this the New Code, and continues with Carmen Bostic St Clair to develop and update it. Advanced NLP encompasses this and other NLP modalities developed and included by the ICAN Alliance.
The Bitner Phillips Partnership uses New Code and Advanced NLP as a central framework for our approach to training Coaches. Bill Phillips has worked alongside NLP co-founder John Grinder, Carmen Bostic St Clair and Michael Carroll for more than a decade supporting the developing and certifying of Trainers in NLP, while independently he has used NLP to coach hundreds of individuals and teams in 20 different countries throughout the world.

Bill’s model was used by the International Red Cross movement to broker the milestone Seville Agreement in 1997, while the roadmap for UK Hydrogen Association’s Hydrogen Vehicle Fuelling Infrastructure in 2012 was also achieved using Future-basing.
